Sara’s back!

And so is Berube!

And Dr. Ralph endorsed Obama, so I guess the Kerry bumpersticker on the Clinch Mountain Boys’ tour bus way back then wasn’t a fluke.

And this indecisive storm system is trying to rain on us tonight.

Bad timing, but still desperately welcomed.

We got rain… it was lovely!  I left a dance around midnight and the light rain was a perfect way to end an evening in a much-too-warm hall.  Plus, now I don’t have to wash my car.

we’ve been waiting for a break in fire season since what, june?  that little bit of rain won’t get us there, but it is a hopeful sign!

my neighbor has at least a dozen large, elderly and unkempt pines stuffed into her yard.  at least 3-4 are dead or dying of the beetle infestation that’s going around—and the biggest of them all, one of the dying trees, hangs over our house.  i worry all through fire season, then worry again when we have lots of rain and high winds.

if she was a normal neighbor, i’d go have a chat.  but she is the neighbor who objected to my son’s band practice by [a] spraying a hose through the patio door right by the boys’ electrical equipment, and breaking our window with a rock thrown over the fence.  so maybe i’ll find out what the firefighters think of her grove, ‘cause we’re toast if it goes up.

Holy moly, Kathy. And you haven’t called the law on her yet?

I know an arborist or two with ISA certifications, so if you want a legally valid opinion about the danger her trees pose to you, well, let me know and I’ll ask around. The FD seems a good place to start, though.

VS, we did get rain too on Friday night, a nice steady gentle shower that had started by the time I went to bed and went on long into the night, evidently. We got barely-misted when we went over to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, but it was warm and pleasant and the sun came out in time for Richard Thompson’s brilliant set.

So did the resident pair of redtails, who I guess are named James and Red Molly, and a pair of ravens doing stunts, in addition to a bunch of other ravens whom I took to be part of the Beach Gang.

well, i finally busted my neighbor, for her trees.  the angel island fire + red-flags on the east bay did it for me.  the only FD email addy i could find was for my city’s chief, so i sent something i hope was graceful.  the Chief Himself telephoned me personally 20 minutes later!  he thanked me for my concerns! [damn, i do live in a small town.] anyways, the fire mashall will be taking a look-see from public locations and report back.
