On the Second Hand, Which Is the Third Hand

California Proposition 4 did get defeated. This was the third time that “parental notification of abortion” scam has been floated as a proposition and the third time it has failed to pass. I propose we send it to the Toxic Proposition Dump now and quit wasting our time and money. The only people it would force to act are precisely the people who need protection from it.

I’ll admit to being puzzled by the result, but I’m not complaining.

also a little puzzled, but i’m not sure prop 4 got a lot of attention in this round of politicking.  we did get one political call on prop 4—a live young person calling for my daughter, who wasn’t here—so they were targeting young voters.  a lot of us are old hands at marking the no box on this one.

Ooooh, I love the idea of a “toxic proposition dump.“  Do you suppose really bad props are biodegradable?

Oh, right, of course they are, because they’re made of bile and bullshit.

Glad about Prop 4.  Waffling on this issue in a speech patently designed to pander to more conservative potential voters is one of the things that lost Hillary Clinton my vote for good and all.  That and the war.

Completely off topic:  I’m reading David Foster Wallace’s essay, “A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again,“ having until just today completely avoided all Foster Wallace books on the grounds of being put off by his male fanboy club bleating constantly about his genius.  However, his recent suicide made me curious and I guess less close-minded in some odd way.  And.  It’s a wonderful essay.  I am now compelled to recommend it to everyone who reads.
