How had I missed this? Saint Veronica is the patron saint of photographers.
And there’s a Lapsed Catholics Flickr group.

my dad was the lapsed catholic in our family. i think of myself as second-generation, since the traditional guilt was passed on intact.
“patron saint of photography” just kills me! is there a patron saint of inept computer users? of ipods? what about telemarketers?

Kathy, doggone, you’re good: St. Isidore of Seville is the patron saint of computers, computer users, computer programmers, Internet. (from
http://www.scborromeo.org/saints/isidores.htm)
St. Clare is the patron saint of television.
Ron, lapsed Catholics have a patron saint, too: St. Monica.
(both from http://www.americancatholic.org/Messenger/Nov2002/Feature2.asp#F3)
Who says Catholicism isn’t keeping up with the times?

What’s really scary is that I know why those characters are patron saints of what they’re patron saints of. Well, Isidore, eh, that’s a stretch. Then again, so’s Clare.
And now you know why I pruned my forename at both ends.
Mostly I consider St. Dymphna my patron. Except for the beheading bit, well, maybe if my sinuses get any more annoying.

I’m thinking about the patron saint of telemarketers. Beelzebub, maybe. Or Thomas Aquinas; it’s serve him right.
Back when I did such things, I wrote a poem about Saint Sithney, the patron saint of mad dogs.

i totally get st. monica, sally, on accounta santa monica CA is near ground zero for self-absorption center of the universe. happily, most recovering catholics i know don’t live there and are better people for it.

This one even sort of makes sense but I’m surprised, surprised!, that you didn’t know it.
Since St. Veronica supposedly wiped the face of Christ with a veil while he was on the way to Calvary, the cloth was imprinted with the image of Christ’s face. (from www.catholic.org website)
Us photographers needed a patron saint. (We did? We do?)
