Ugh.

One of these days I’m going to be techiefied enough to start a Hollaback variation for bad pruning. Maybe “Hollabark”?

P1010001.JPG

This poor butchered mess of a tree was a healthy (as far as I could tell) sweetgum in a small yard not far from us in Berkeley. Enlarge and/or look at the other four photos in the Flickr set to see its pitiful effort at leafing out now, in spring.

ron, you are the go-to person about bad pruning!  this tree looks like it might not come back.

And if it does, it’ll be a hazard in a couple of years. Damn I hate slow death.

Yeah, I know I’ve branded myself, so to speak, as Bad Pruning Howler. With a little more ambition, energy, and cunning I could be Bad Pruning Avenger. You do know that pruning this bad is actually illegal in San Francisco, right? At least on public trees. Pity Berkeley’s so backward on this.

Other possible names: Hellabark?  This bark really bites?  Silence of the Limbs?  Amputrees?  Out of a limb?  Limbo?  Limb-BAD-a, the forbidden pruning?  Guantanamo Bay Leaves?  Leave the trees alone?  Prune juice?

Ever wondered why I don’t put my real name on these things?  Now you know.
